The State Ports Authority is steaming ahead with its plans to accommodate cruise ships. Charleston Mayor Joe Riley is cheering the process on.
But despite the mayor's belief that there is not much opposition, the debate actually seems to be intensifying.
The city and the SPA could make a lot of the discord and suspicion go away if they would formalize their friendly agreement on the size and scope of the cruise ship industry in Charleston. But, so far, SPA President/CEO Jim Newsome has not budged on that point; nor has the mayor.
